How do I complete a spirometry test?

A step-by-step guide to taking a spirometry reading with the Spirobank Smart Spirometer

  1. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile or tablet device before taking the test.

  2. Press the red ➕ button at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Select Add Spirometry.

  4. Read and listen to the instructions provided. Once ready, press the Understood button.

  5. Take 2-3 normal breaths and then one rapid deep breath, as deep as you can. Then blow as hard and as fast as you can into the mouthpiece. Keep going until you completely empty your lungs over a period of at least 6 seconds.

    Once you start blowing, the pinwheel on your screen will start to spin and you will be encouraged to keep blowing until you reach 6 seconds.

  6. Your results will then appear on the screen. Feedback on your spirometry technique will also be shown below your results. You can learn more about spirometry feedback by clicking here.

    You will be given the option to do another test or finish your session. Click on one of these options to proceed.

  7. Your spirometry results are automatically sent to your clinical care team for monitoring. You can also view your results under the My Data section of the app.
