Tips for the most accurate blood pressure readings
Try to measure your blood pressure at the same time every day.
Do not smoke, ingest caffeine, exercise or bathe at least 30 minutes before the measurement.
Relax for about 5-10 minutes before taking your measurement.
Sit in a comfortable position. Place the measuring arm on a table or another support so that the cuff is at heart level. Keep your palm facing upward. Do not cross your legs. Keep your feet on the floor and straighten your back.
Remove any tight clothing that may be restricting your arm.
Unless your doctor recommends otherwise, take the reading on your left arm.
Remain still and do not speak during the measurement.
Please note: While the measurement is being taken, it is normal for the cuff to feel very tight. Do not be alarmed. If it gets too much for you, stop the measurement, take a break and try to take another measurement when you are ready.
