Follow the tips below to get the most accurate pulse oximetry results.

  • Be seated comfortably for 5 minutes prior to taking your measurement.

  • Make sure your hands are clean and free from any residue eg. dried blood, dirt, grease, oil, etc.

  • Remove any artificial nails or fingernail polish.

  • The device may not work if circulation is reduced. If your hands are cold, rub them together for a few minutes or run them under a warm tap.

  • Make sure your finger is centred within the finger guide and flat as shown below.

  • For best results, keep the device at heart or chest level.

  • While on the finger, do not press the device against any surface and do not squeeze or apply extra pressure.

  • The displayed values can vary slightly especially at the start. Wait about 5 seconds before relying on the displayed values.

  • Keep the pulse oximeter away from excessive light, such as sunlight or direct home lighting.

  • When the device is on your finger, avoid excessive motion as this can affect the accuracy of your results.

  • Keep the oximeter dry at all times.

  • Do not sterilise or immerse the device in liquid.

Please note: Poor circulation and conditions such as Raynaud's disease can greatly reduce the accuracy of your results. If you have a condition that affects your blood flow, please let your clinician know as the Nonin 3230 Pulse Oximeter device may not be suitable for you.
